As Fractional CFOs, we tend to spend an inordinate amount of time focusing on our clients' outcomes:
• Increased profit
• Paying down debt
• Creating more time
• More cash in the bank
• Hiring more employees
• Higher and higher multiples
And I'm really glad that we spend that time focusing on creating those outcomes. It's those exact outcomes that lead to creating amazing impact in the world!
As of today, we're officially half way though Q4. Many of us are in that season where we're helping our clients think through their goals for the new year. We're working through the strategies and tactics that will help our clients achieve those goals.
I also want to encourage you to block off time to think about YOUR outcomes in the next few weeks. I want you to take a fresh look at the reasons you started your firm in the first place.
What kind of life did you want to create for you and your family?
What kind of income did you want to unlock for yourself?
What kinds of clients did you want to work with?
What kinds of services did you want to offer?
In fact, I want to encourage you to look at 3 distinct areas of your life and reflect on where you're at today, where you'd like to be by December 31, 2025, and what you need to do to close the gap.
If you're anything like me, you probably started your firm to unlock more time and energy for you to be able to have deeper, more meaningful relationships with family and friends.
Unfortunately, business ownership has a way of luring us in with promises of abundance when it comes to time - only to suck every last drop of free time and energy out of us!
If we're not careful, we can end up working more hours and having less energy than we did when working for someone else.
I also know firsthand that stress from running a business can mount over time and it's easy for that stress to follow you home (or from your office on the other side of the house).
If that's you, think about what needs to be true to right the ship in 2025 and get you back on track in terms of time and energy when it comes to having healthy relationships.
Whatever is happening in your business, it isn't worth sacrificing your relationships over.
Life is already pretty short and tomorrow isn't promised.
Take an honest look at where your health is at today.
Are you:
Eating well?
Sleeping well?
Moving your body regularly?
Man, it's amazing how the little decisions we make every day in each of those 3 categories can really add up to significant problems.
And the real kicker is that when just 1 of those areas drops off, the other 2 areas follow right behind!
Those 3 areas can also take a significant toll on your mental health as well.
What do you need to do in 2025 to create better outcomes for your physical and metal health?
Whatever is happening in your business, it isn't worth sacrificing your health over.
I'm guessing that you didn't start your business to be overworked and underpaid.
You could easily do that by working for just about anyone else - and NOT carry the stress and risk of running your own business.
What goals and activities do you need to target in 2025 to flip the script on your own financial outcomes? To get your income up? To destress money conversations at home?
The good news is that you're a Fractional CFO and so you probably know what you need to do to get revenue or profitability up.
You've just got to decide if you're willing to do the work.
Being able to say you own a business isn't worth staying broke over. Yes, being a business owner is cool but being broke certainly isn't.
I'm guessing I haven't said anything revolutionary in this blog.
I wasn't trying to.
My hope is that today's blog serves as a gentle reminder that you deserve to have strong relationships, a healthy mind and body, and abundant income.
But those things aren't likely to happen by chance.
You've got to figure out what good looks like for you, set some goals, and then put a plan in place to achieve them.
You know... kinda like you tell your clients to do every day. ๐
